Not a Surprise: “Top Program Scores Big as Former Rams Draft Pick Joins their edge rusher depth.!”

Philadelphia made a tweak to their edge rusher depth

The Philadelphia Eagles made some roster updates on Friday morning. Here’s a quick summary:

  • OLB Ochaun Mathis has been signed to the practice squad.
  • OLB David Anenih has been released from the practice squad.

Let’s break down the news for each player.

OCHAUN MATHIS
Mathis has connections to the Eagles’ Week 12 opponent; he was selected by the Los Angeles Rams as a sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 250 pounds, the edge rusher participated in 74 defensive snaps and 19 special teams snaps during his rookie year. He was waived by the Rams during roster cuts ahead of the 2024 season.

After leaving LA, Mathis joined the New England Patriots’ practice squad before being promoted to their active roster in late October. With the Patriots, he logged 11 defensive snaps and 80 special teams snaps before being released earlier this week.

Now in Philadelphia, Mathis brings added depth as an edge rusher and special teams player. The Eagles are optimistic about his potential for development at 25 years old.

DAVID ANENIH
The Eagles initially added Anenih to their practice squad in mid-September, but it appears they believe Mathis is a stronger candidate for the role at the same position.
