Notre Dame redshirt freshman receiver KK Smith will not play on Saturday due to a clavicle injury, according to the latest update from the Fighting Irish program.
A source informed ISD that Smith suffered the injury during practice and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
The 6-foot, 178-pound receiver has played in six games this season, recording three receptions for 38 yards. He had two catches for 13 yards against Purdue and added one catch for 25 yards against Stanford.
This year, Smith has been on the field for 90 snaps after recovering from shoulder surgery last fall. His absence will impact Notre Dame’s depth, but it could open up opportunities for freshman Logan Saldate, who has been performing well while working behind Jaden Greathouse and Jayden Harrison in the slot.
Originally from Frisco, Texas, Smith was rated as a three-star prospect by ISD’s Jamie Uyeyama when he came out of high school.
Uyeyama commented on Smith’s potential: “Smith’s speed is undeniable. He has the potential to be an explosive playmaker for the Irish, significantly enhancing team speed with his addition. He is similar to the type of player Baylor has successfully developed in recent years. While it may take time for Smith to see the field at Notre Dame, it will be exciting to see how his game evolves over the next few years.”
