Latest Update: Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key has some choice words about Georgia

Georgia football is gearing up for one of its most emotionally charged games of the season as the Bulldogs prepare to host Georgia Tech at Sanford Stadium on Friday night. The Bulldogs have the chance to extend their winning streak against the Yellow Jackets to seven games.

Given UGA’s dominance in recent years, it’s no surprise that Georgia Tech has a strong dislike for the Bulldogs. This animosity is certainly mutual, although it appears to be expressed differently by each team.

Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key expressed his disdain for Georgia over the summer, which comes across quite humorously from a Georgia fan’s perspective.

“There’s nothing I hate more in the world. It’s probably the only thing I hate,” Key said, as reported by dawgnation.com. “When I say hate, I truly despise everything about it. I really do.”

In contrast, Kirby Smart had a different take on the rivalry while discussing the upcoming game.

“I don’t think you get real emotional about things like that,” Smart stated. “I think you’re a much better coach when you remain composed and focus on teaching your players what it takes to win the game. It will be an emotional game, but I don’t let it affect me.”

Two very different mindsets heading into Friday night

It’s evident that Key and Smart have very different perspectives on this game and their opponent. One coach seems to be overwhelmed by emotions, allowing his disdain for the rival to take center stage. In contrast, the other coach acknowledges the emotional weight of the game but keeps his focus on the task at hand.

There’s no doubt that Smart understands the significance of defeating Georgia Tech each season. Having both played in and coached this rivalry for many years, he appreciates what a win against Tech means for the program. At the same time, he appears to respect the Yellow Jackets to some extent, which is an essential trait for a head coach. This perspective helps Smart avoid getting caught up in emotions and instead concentrate on positioning his team for victory.

We’ll see which approach pays off on Friday night, but I believe Smart and Georgia have a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in this rivalry.
