Tulane may have missed its opportunity to qualify for the College Football Playoff.

During Tulane’s opening drive of the second half, Green Wave wide receiver Yulkeith Brown made a 40-yard catch on a 3rd-and-7, but things went wrong when Memphis defensive back Kourtlan Marsh caused a fumble inside the Memphis 20-yard line.

Tigers defensive back AJ Watts was able to recover the ball and returned it for 37 yards.

Five plays later, Memphis scored a touchdown, resulting in a potential 14-point swing in the game. Running back Greg Desrosiers Jr. capped it off with a 29-yard run for his third touchdown.

CFP No. 17 Tulane (9-2, 7-0 in the AAC) entered Week 14 as the highest-ranked team in the AAC, sitting just behind the top-ranked Big 12 team, No. 16 Arizona State (9-2, 6-2 in the Big 12).

The Green Wave could secure a spot in the 12-team CFP as the fifth-highest-ranked conference champion, but a loss to Memphis would eliminate that possibility.

Brown’s fumble, followed by a touchdown from the Tigers, has increased that likelihood.

As the third quarter came to a close, Tulane found themselves down 24-10.
