Utah Hockey Club Unveils Statewide Youth Programs for Club’s Inaugural Season
Today, the Utah Hockey Club announced several initiatives aimed at introducing youth throughout Utah and beyond to the sport of hockey. With a mix of free events, youth street leagues, on-ice activities, and school-based programs, the club plans to engage over 5,000 participants this season, providing numerous opportunities for young people to get involved in hockey.
“Utah Hockey Club is dedicated to making hockey accessible for as many kids and families as possible,” stated Chris Armstrong, president and alternate governor of the club. “Our youth programs focus on teaching the game and fostering a love for hockey in neighborhoods and communities across the state. The Utah Jazz have set an impressive standard with their Junior Jazz program, and we aim to build on that foundation, along with the efforts of many other organizations, to enhance hockey activities, leagues, educational programs, and resources throughout Utah and nearby areas.”

This season, the Utah Hockey Club will launch “Hockey 101,” a series of events designed to introduce youth and their families to the basics of hockey while bringing communities together around the sport. Each Hockey 101 event will occur at local recreation centers, ice rinks throughout Utah, and twice at the Delta Center this season. These events are tailored for participants of all ages to learn fundamental skills and discover ways to engage with the game.
Youth aged 8 to 14 can sign up for the next Hockey 101 event on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Mountain View Junior High School in West Haven, Utah, which will feature interactive hockey games and activities.
Utah Hockey Club Street Hockey Leagues
Sponsored by University of Utah Health and America First Credit Union
This fall, in collaboration with local parks and recreation departments, the Utah Hockey Club will introduce street hockey leagues across Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. To support these leagues, the club will donate necessary equipment, including skates, nets, goalie gear, sticks, balls, and other essentials. Additionally, training sessions for coaches and referees will be provided to ensure smooth implementation of the programs.
Run through community recreation centers, these street hockey leagues offer a low-cost opportunity for youth to learn the sport. Open to kids aged 7 to 18, each league will last 6 to 8 weeks and will include supplemental clinics and other events organized by the Utah Hockey Club throughout the season.
Learn to Play
Starting in early 2025, the Utah Hockey Club will launch the Learn to Play program, featuring one-hour sessions at local ice rinks aimed at teaching the fundamentals of ice hockey. Experienced coaches and Utah Hockey Club players, including broadcaster Tyson Nash, will lead select sessions.
Registration for each session is $ 250, and participants will receive a complete set of hockey gear—including a helmet, pads, skates, stick, and jersey—upon completing the program.
Hockey PE Programming
