Morgan State’s Dynamo Has His Eyes on the Ultimate Goal
Morgan State defensive lineman Elijah Williams, also known as “Agent Zero,” has recently made a name for himself by setting program records for career sacks and tackles for loss. Despite these impressive achievements, Williams’ ultimate goal extends beyond personal accolades and even beyond the records he’s broken—his eyes are set on the NFL.
This season, Williams ranks second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for both sacks (11) and tackles for loss (14). He set a new school record for tackles for loss on November 17, surpassing the previous mark with 50.5 tackles. In addition to his performance on the field, Williams has earned several honors, including being named to the Preseason MEAC First Team Defense, the BOXTOROW 2024 HBCU Preseason All-America team, and the Phil Steele MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. However, he remains focused on his team’s success, downplaying personal achievements. “The accolades are cool, but they always take a back seat to what’s in front of me,” Williams explained.
CBS Sports HQ analyst Emory Hunt, who has been covering Morgan State football since 2015, believes Williams has the talent to make it to the NFL. Hunt considers Williams the best defensive line prospect from an HBCU in the upcoming draft, praising his versatility on the field. He adds that Williams has the potential to excel as a 3-technique defensive tackle but is capable of playing various positions along the defensive line.
Williams’ journey to this point began in high school at Lincoln High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. After a freshman year without any playing time, his coach told him the team needed a center. Despite only playing defense, Williams stepped up and earned the starting spot. He continued to play both offense and defense in his junior and senior years and was recruited by Morgan State as a linebacker.
Reflecting on his decision to commit to Morgan State, Williams described a strong feeling that it was the right place for him. “It was just something about Morgan,” he said, explaining that he didn’t even visit the school before making the decision to commit. After joining the Bears, Williams started all 11 games in his freshman year, securing his spot on the team. He also embraced the transition in coaching when Damon Wilson, former coach at Bowie State, took the reins at Morgan State in 2022.
