The Pelicans have lost 13 of their last 14 games after their latest loss on Friday.
The New Orleans Pelicans extended their losing streak to seven games following a 120-109 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Although this performance was an improvement compared to their humiliating 26-point loss to the Raptors on Wednesday, the outcome was still disappointing. As it stands, New Orleans has the worst record in the Western Conference.
Once again, Friday’s game was played without Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones, and Jose Alvarado, all sidelined due to injuries. Dejounte Murray showed marked improvement in his second game back from a fractured hand, making 5 of 8 shots and scoring 17 points in the first half. In contrast, during Wednesday’s loss to the Raptors, the former All-Star guard had a rough outing, going 0 for 7 from the field and only scoring two points by halftime.
The Pelicans have now lost 13 of their last 14 games and are struggling to find solutions. After the game, Head Coach Willie Green spoke to the media, praising his team’s effort but admitting that it wasn’t sufficient.
“I believe the intention was there, but as I mentioned earlier, there are no moral victories in this league,” Green told reporters. “We need to keep putting in the effort.” However, it’s challenging to do so when many key players are unavailable. Green expressed uncertainty about the availability of Ingram and Hawkins for the team’s upcoming road game in New York on Sunday.
After winning 49 games last season, the Pelicans’ current campaign feels as if it’s already nearing collapse. New Orleans is striving to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in the franchise’s history.
