An ideal trade between the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators seems to be forming.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Predators are actively seeking a third or fourth-line center in the trade market. At the same time, it’s been reported that the Canadiens are in search of a right-handed defenseman, and the Predators might be willing to trade Alexandre Carrier.
This brings us to a possible trade scenario: could a deal between the Canadiens and Predators involving Alexandre Carrier and Christian Dvorak make sense?
Seravalli mentioned that Nashville has been looking for a center, while Carrier could be a trade candidate.
Would a one-for-one swap of Dvorak for Carrier interest Kent Hughes and the Canadiens?
A younger player like Owen Beck could eventually replace Dvorak at center, making this potential move intriguing.
Christian Dvorak, 28, has 8 points in 24 games this season and carries a $4.45 million cap hit through 2025.
Alexandre Carrier, also 28, is a Quebec-born right-handed defenseman with 6 points in 25 games this season. He earns $3.75 million annually until 2027.
In my opinion, Carrier would currently be more beneficial to the Canadiens than Dvorak, but the extra term on his contract does pose a challenge. Still, if both players had the same contract length, I would lean toward acquiring the defenseman.
