In an effort to enhance the starting rotation, President of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow is on the lookout for an ace, with one potential target being a right-handed pitcher from the Seattle Mariners.
So far, Boston has been active in free agency, reported to be pursuing outfielder Juan Soto and expressing interest in top free-agent pitchers Corbin Burnes and Max Fried. However, should Burnes and Fried sign elsewhere, the Red Sox may need to explore the trade market for their ace.
Among the trade candidates, Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox stands out, as the team is reportedly open to moving him this offseason. Another intriguing option is Castillo, who has a solid track record and has been frequently mentioned in trade discussions.

Meidroth and Garcia, ranked 11th and 12th among Boston’s top prospects by MLB.com, would also be included in the deal.
Bringing Castillo on board would provide the Red Sox with a three-time All-Star known for his reliability, having made at least 25 starts each season since 2021. During that span, he has maintained a strong 3.51 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Currently under contract through 2027 as part of a five-year, 108millionextensionwiththeMariners,Castilloissettoearn 24.15 million annually from 2025 to 2027, with a $ 25 million vesting option for 2028.
