The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) has announced its 31-man All-Newcomer team for the 2024 season, featuring four athletes from the University of South Dakota: Quaron Adams, Nate Ewell, Adrian Hawkins, and Mike Reid.
ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: OFFENSE
Quaron Adams, Wide Receiver Adams, a sophomore from Phoenix, Arizona, emerged as the Missouri Valley’s premier deep threat in his first season with South Dakota, boasting a remarkable average of 29.1 yards per reception— the highest in the league. He led the Coyotes with five receiving touchdowns during the regular season, tying for seventh in the Valley.
A transfer from Iowa State, he ranked second on the team with 436 receiving yards on just 15 receptions and was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week following the team’s 59-0 victory over Murray State.
Adrian Hawkins, Offensive Line Hawkins, a junior from Baltimore, Maryland, started all 11 regular-season games at right guard after transferring from Monmouth in New Jersey. He played a key role on an offensive line that ranked second in the conference for both total yards (441.6 per game) and rushing yards (224.3 per game). The impressive performance of the o-line contributed to the Coyotes achieving the second-best scoring offense in the Valley, averaging 37.0 points per game.
ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: DEFENSE
Nate Ewell, Linebacker Ewell, a senior from Waterloo, Iowa, made an immediate impact in his first season with the Coyotes, starting all 11 games at linebacker. He finished second on the team with 59 total tackles and recorded 4.0 tackles for loss.
A transfer from Grand View in Iowa, Ewell notched two games with double-digit tackles, including a season-high of 11 against Northern Iowa on October 12.
Mike Reid, Defensive Back Reid, a senior from Owings Mills, Maryland, joined the Coyotes from Monmouth and made 10 starts at cornerback while playing in all 11 games this season. He ranked tied for sixth in the MVFC with eight pass break-ups, making him a key focus for opposing offenses trying to avoid his side of the field.
Reid also contributed with 31 tackles and one interception during the regular season.
