Wolfpack star quarterback CJ will return for his sophomore season
Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 210 pounds, Bailey played in 11 games during the 2024 season, starting seven of them. He completed 177 of 276 passes (64.1 percent) for 2,183 yards, with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also contributed significantly in the running game, rushing 88 times for 255 yards and five scores.
His announcement follows a remarkable performance in a recent 35-30 road victory over UNC, where he excelled in the second half, completing 11 of 12 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the game with a total of 242 passing yards and also rushed for 54 yards on 14 carries.
After the victory, he emphasized the importance of supporting his teammates and improving his performance. He credited superior play calling and coaching for his successful play in the second half.
Having signed a new agreement with Savage Wolves and 1Pack NIL collective, Bailey originally committed to NC State in March 2023 and chose the Wolfpack over offers from several programs, including Miami, Louisville, and Texas A&M.
He previously led Chaminade-Madonna to three consecutive state championships and amassed impressive statistics in high school, throwing for 9,005 yards with 116 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, while rushing for an additional 674 yards and six scores.
Bailey was recognized as a four-star prospect and was ranked as the No. 29 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Joining him on the roster in 2025 will be redshirt sophomore Lex Thomas and true freshman Will Wilson, both of whom are also scholarship quarterbacks.
