Insider Makes Massive Statement About Browns’ QB Situation

An NFL insider has made a bold statement regarding the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation, signaling a crucial decision ahead for the team.

With Deshaun Watson still under contract for two more years and owed a substantial amount of money, the Browns are facing a difficult choice at quarterback. Despite Watson’s contract, it’s clear they cannot return him to the starting role.

Jameis Winston has stepped in as a starter and delivered impressive statistics this season, but his turnover problems remain a significant issue, a flaw that has plagued him throughout his NFL career. While some fans want to see Winston continue as the starter, others believe the Browns should pursue a long-term franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk made a bold statement on social media, asserting that the Browns would be “insane” not to re-sign Winston and make him the starter over Watson next season.

Winston has started five games since Watson’s Achilles injury, completing 61.3% of his passes for 1,763 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. While he has shown the ability to put up impressive numbers, his performance in the loss to the Denver Broncos exemplified his inconsistency. Winston threw for 497 yards and four touchdowns, but also tossed three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Winston’s turnover issues continue to hinder his long-term starting prospects. Now, Browns general manager Andrew Berry and the front office must decide whether Winston’s potential outweighs his mistakes or if they need to seek a new quarterback.

While Winston could very well be the 2025 starter, the Browns may ultimately look elsewhere for a solution. However, if the choice is between Winston and Watson, Winston is seen as the better option by many.
