Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, is pulling out all the stops in Oregon’s quest for a national title.

His involvement in recruiting is well-known, but recent details reveal just how specific his efforts are. Knight’s presence in a commitment video for five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord was no coincidence. Offord, who flipped from Ohio State to Oregon, revealed that Knight had big plans for him, including helping him create his own shoe.

Oregon’s recruiting success, including landing Offord, quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele, and wide receiver Dallas Wilson, is largely due to Knight’s financial support and personal involvement. The Ducks’ recruiting class ranks No. 4 nationally, bolstered by Knight’s donations, which have funded major Oregon facilities. He also played a significant role in Oregon’s NIL operations through the Division Street collective, providing substantial financial backing for the program.

Knight’s hands-on approach and aggressive investment in Oregon’s football program have raised both admiration and jealousy from other coaches. Despite some coaches’ remarks about Oregon’s perceived financial advantage, Knight’s goal is clear: win a national championship for Oregon. For recruits like Offord, Knight’s influence extends beyond financial support; it also includes opportunities for endorsements and brand-building, which he believes will be crucial for his future success.
