The Miami Heat need to find a better backcourt partner for Tyler Herro if they aim to contend for a championship this season.
The pairing of Herro and Terry Rozier hasn’t been effective for several reasons, with the key issues being Rozier’s inefficiency and defensive struggles. A potential solution for both problems could come from a trade with the rebuilding Utah Jazz.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that several Jazz veterans, including the high-energy Collin Sexton, are available for trade.
“Player development is the priority for the Jazz, which goes beyond just aiming for a top position in a competitive lottery. Utah has the youngest roster in the league, with eight players under 24, and they are using this season to evaluate those players,” MacMahon wrote. “The Jazz are also expected to be active in trade discussions, with veterans like John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton available for the right deal.”
Miami’s front office could pursue a fresh start in their search for a stable point guard by acquiring Sexton. A trade package centered around Rozier and draft picks might be enough to entice Utah.
Sexton is currently averaging an impressive 16.9 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from three. Coach Erik Spoelstra would likely encourage the 25-year-old to take on a more prominent playmaking role.
While he may not excel in playmaking, Sexton compensates with his relentless defense, making him a much better fit for ‘Heat Culture’ than Rozier has been.
