ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Georgia Tech has secured head football coach Brent Key and Athletic Director J Batt with two-year contract extensions, the school announced on Friday.
These extensions will ensure that both remain in Atlanta until 2029.
Batt became the athletics director at Georgia Tech in October 2022, and one of his initial significant decisions was to hire Brent Key as the full-time head football coach. This decision has proven successful, with Key achieving an 18-15 record over two and a half seasons, including the eight games following Geoff Collins’ dismissal in 2022.
As the full-time head coach, Key has a record of 14-11, leading the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back bowl-eligible seasons—the first for Georgia Tech since 2013 and 2014. The team also secured a victory against UCF in the 2023 Gasparilla Bowl.
Additionally, Key has bolstered the recruiting efforts at Tech, assembling the 18th-best recruiting class for 2025 according to 247Sports.
Batt’s accomplishments go beyond the hiring of Key. He brought in former Boston Celtics assistant Damon Stoudamire as the head coach of the men’s basketball team; Stoudamire finished his first season with a record of 14-18 and has the Jackets off to a 4-4 start this year.
Under Batt’s leadership, Georgia Tech’s golf team has reached the NCAA semifinals two consecutive times.
Off the field, Batt secured a multi-decade partnership with Hyundai, raised a record-breaking 78.2millionforGeorgiaTechathletics,andlaunchedanadditional 500 million fundraising initiative, as reported by the school.
“J Batt has demonstrated exceptional leadership as Georgia Tech’s athletic director, bringing a strategic vision and enthusiasm that have been instrumental in navigating the evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics,” stated Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera. “I am pleased that the Georgia Tech Athletics Association Board supports contract extensions for both J and head football coach Brent Key, ensuring we continue to build on the success they have brought to our athletics program.”
In addition to his extension, Batt has also been promoted to vice president.
