NC State Football Joins Growing Battle for Giant OT Alex Wollschlaeger
Bowling Green senior offensive tackle Alex Wollschlaeger entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, and by Thursday, offers began rolling in, including one from NC State football head coach Dave Doeren and his staff. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound player, who was just a two-star recruit at Oswego East High School in Illinois weighing only 250 pounds back in 2020, is now ranked No. 37 overall and No. 3 among offensive tackles in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.
After redshirting as a true freshman in 2020 and seeing limited playing time the following year, Wollschlaeger became a key player on Bowling Green’s offensive line for the past three seasons. He has one year of eligibility left.
The 2024 First Team All-MAC selection’s extensive experience would be a valuable asset for NC State. However, his offer list, which already includes schools like Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Arkansas, and Iowa State, continues to grow.
Meanwhile, four of the five starting offensive linemen for NC State this season will not return next year, making it no surprise that the Wolfpack coaches are prioritizing this position in the transfer portal. So far, however, Doeren and his staff have not secured a transfer addition in this cycle.
