At the 2024 MLB trade deadline, the San Diego Padres acquired reliever Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins, and he quickly established himself as a crucial contributor, helping the team secure many victories in the latter part of the season.

Now a free agent, Scott is anticipated to depart from the Padres, with few analysts expecting him to return to San Diego.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently proposed that Scott might sign a four-year, $ 70 million contract with the Texas Rangers. He pointed out that the Rangers are in dire need of bullpen reinforcements after losing most of their relief pitchers in 2024, including Kirby Yates, David Robertson, José Ureña, José Leclerc, and Andrew Chafin.

This opens the door for Luis Curvelo to be a possible candidate for save situations. Miller thinks Scott would be an excellent match for the Rangers, who could manage his contract even after re-signing Nathan Eovaldi for $ 75 million.

Scott would be an important acquisition for the Rangers, and they would probably be able to afford the suggested price. However, the critical question is whether they are inclined to invest that much in Scott, particularly when there are more affordable options available. The Rangers might lean towards re-signing veteran closer Kirby Yates instead of allocating $ 20 million per year to Scott over four years.
