BREAKING: The Boston Red Sox are set to acquire a $100 million, 44-home run superstar from their rival, the Baltimore Orioles!
The Boston Red Sox made a notable acquisition by trading for ace Garrett Crochet earlier this offseason, but they haven’t been active since then. While they presented a $ 700 million offer to free agent Juan Soto, they haven’t redirected their strategy with those funds.
Zach Buckley from Bleacher Report recently speculated that the Red Sox could consider using some of that money to sign free-agent power hitter Anthony Santander from the Baltimore Orioles. Jon Heyman of the New York Post predicts that Santander is likely to land a $ 100 million deal following his impressive 2024 season, during which he hit 44 home runs.
“Anthony Santander had 44 reasons to anticipate a significant payday this offseason,” Buckley noted, referencing his career-high 44 homers, which marked his best performance to date. In addition to those home runs, he also tallied 91 runs and 102 RBIs, leading his team in both categories for the 91-win Orioles. This outstanding performance earned him his first All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger award.
Buckley mentioned that although Santander might not get the huge contract he’s hoping for, he will still receive a considerable amount, especially if the Red Sox show interest.
Joining the Red Sox could be a strategic decision. Boston has a significant budget available, and if they don’t manage to sign one of the top pitchers, targeting a powerful hitter like Santander could be a sensible approach.
