The New York Mets have been active this offseason, highlighted by their historic $ 765 million contract with outfielder Juan Soto. Yet, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns still has important tasks on his agenda, including the need to acquire another top-tier starter.

One option under consideration is a trade for Minnesota Twins ace Pablo López, who has been a dependable pitcher since 2022. López has started 32 games each year for the past three seasons, logging over 180 innings in each. His performance has yielded a 36-28 record, a 3.83 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 606 strikeouts.

Following the departures of Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, and Jose Quintana to free agency, Stearns has been working on rebuilding the rotation this offseason by adding Frankie Montas, Clay Holmes, and Griffin Canning. As reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Twins have been receiving inquiries regarding López’s availability.

Twins' Pablo Lopez Has Been Better Than His Subpar Numbers Indicate

If Minnesota is willing to trade him, what would it take for the Mets to land the right-hander? Sporting News’ Jackson Roberts proposed the following trade scenario:

The Mets would receive starting pitcher Pablo López, while the Twins would get outfielder Ryan Clifford, right-handed pitcher Nolan McLean, and third baseman Brett Baty. Clifford (ranked No. 4) and McLean (ranked No. 9) are both among the top 10 prospects in the Mets’ system, according to MLB.com. Although this would require giving up a substantial package, López could be a cost-effective option to pair with ace Kodai Senga for the upcoming seasons.
