The No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish advance in the College Football Playoff after defeating No. 10 Indiana, 27-17, in South Bend on Friday night. Notre Dame maintained the lead throughout the game, with quarterback Riley Leonard making history by scoring his 15th rushing touchdown of the season. Running back Jeremiyah Love kicked off the scoring with a remarkable 98-yard touchdown run just minutes into the matchup. With this win, Notre Dame is set to face No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Unfortunately, they did experience a setback when defensive lineman Rylie Mills left the game in the second half due to a knee injury.

Following the game, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman provided an update on Mills, according to Matt Fortuna. “There is optimism,” Freeman stated. “I won’t go into specifics about what I was told, but it seems it won’t be a season-ending injury. We just need to make sure he recovers in the next 10-11 days to prepare for the upcoming game in New Orleans.”

Before exiting the game, Mills made two tackles and a sack, showcasing impressive performance for the Irish. Throughout the regular season, he accumulated 17 solo tackles and 6.5 sacks, playing a crucial role in the defense. Mills was appointed captain at the start of the year and received Sporting News Second Team All-American recognition at the conclusion of the regular season. Nevertheless, the Irish are hopeful that Mills will be able to play on New Year’s Day against the Bulldogs. For now, Freeman remains optimistic about the Notre Dame standout.
