The Commodores are bringing a familiar face to West End
The pipeline from New Mexico State to Vanderbilt continues to thrive. Wide receiver Trent Hudson, a frequent transfer who began his career at NMSU and most recently played for New Mexico State, announced his commitment to the Commodores on Sunday. He will be reuniting with quarterback Diego Pavia, offensive coordinator Tim Beck, and offensive consultant Jerry Kill.
In 2024, Hudson did not record any stats while redshirting at Mississippi State, leaving him with at least one season of eligibility remaining, and possibly more, as he is a former junior college player. His eligibility may be affected by the NCAA’s response to Pavia’s lawsuit concerning junior college eligibility.
During the 2023 season at NMSU, Hudson recorded 35 catches for 551 yards and 10 touchdowns, serving as Pavia’s second main target. At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, he is expected to be a larger outside receiver, complementing the smaller Junior Sherrill. Hudson is Vanderbilt’s second wide receiver acquisition from the NCAA transfer portal, joining former Virginia Tech standout Chance Fitzgerald.
Since entering the transfer portal in early December, Hudson visited Liberty and North Texas while receiving additional offers from several Group of Five programs. He becomes Vanderbilt’s 10th incoming transfer, contributing to a class currently ranked 24th nationally, pending Hudson’s ratings.
