The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a rare home loss against the LA Clippers on Monday.
After a slow start to the season with an 8-7 record, the Memphis Grizzlies have emerged as one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Heading into Monday’s game against the LA Clippers, they had won 12 of their last 14 games and 13 of 16 at home.
However, Memphis couldn’t hold off the Clippers, suffering a 114-110 defeat. Norman Powell led the Clippers with 29 points, Ivica Zubac had an impressive 20 points and 20 rebounds, and James Harden nearly posted a triple-double with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Grizzlies star Ja Morant has had a strong season, but his shooting was off in the loss. Morant finished with 23 points, shooting 7-21 from the field and 2-8 from beyond the arc, along with 6 turnovers.
Following the game, Morant took responsibility for the loss, attributing much of the blame to his own performance.
“I’ve gotta be better, simple. Too many turnovers,” Morant said. “Obviously, I missed shots I normally make. I’m trying to think smart now. I need my money. My shot was hurt, by the way. Y’all can put two and two together.”
“I just need to be better,” Morant said. “I slowed down a bit too much and reverted to old habits, trying to run the pick-and-roll. The drop coverage threw me off a little. I need to come out strong and take control of the game.”
Morant has struggled with turnovers this season. His six-turnover performance on Monday marked the eighth game this season in which he has committed five or more turnovers.
Following the loss, the Grizzlies remain in third place in the Western Conference. While they have been dominant at home, they are approaching a tough stretch with nine of their next 11 games on the road. If Memphis hopes to maintain their position in the standings, Morant will need to improve on his performance from Monday’s game.
