The college football transfer portal kept moving even on Christmas Day. On Tuesday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers strengthened their offense with the addition of former Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key. Then, on Christmas morning, Matt Rhule’s program secured another key player when Idaho defensive back Andrew Marshall announced his commitment to Nebraska via a post on his X page. The post showed Marshall holding a football while wearing an Idaho sweater, followed by a picture of him in a Nebraska sweater. Marshall, a three-star recruit in high school, played at Eleanor Roosevelt in Northern California, according to On3’s rankings.
Marshall played the last two seasons at Idaho, recording 66 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and six pass deflections. He originally selected Idaho over Hawaii, but now he is making a significant move to join the Big Ten Conference.
Marshall is expected to compete for a starting position with the Cornhuskers. In 2024, he earned Big Sky first-team all-conference honors and is widely considered one of the top defensive backs in the FCS. Recently, Nebraska also added former Oklahoma linebacker Dasan McCollough and Georgia safety Justyn Rhett, bolstering their defense with some key transfers. Additionally, the Cornhuskers previously brought in Cal wide receiver Nyziah Hunter. With numerous new players joining the team, Nebraska is making significant moves in the transfer portal. While preparing for the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College on Saturday, they’ve made impressive progress in strengthening their roster.
