UNC football head coach Bill Belichick and his staff will host edge rusher Jayson Jenkins next week.

As reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Friday afternoon, former Tennessee defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins, who played for three years, is planning to visit Bill Belichick’s UNC football program and its rival, Dave Doeren’s NC State Wolfpack, on back-to-back days.

Since entering the transfer portal on Thursday, Jenkins has attracted significant interest from numerous schools. He has arranged an official visit to UNC on Friday, Jan. 3, followed by a tour of NC State on Saturday, Jan. 4, as he prepares to make a decision in the coming weeks.

Before his visit to Chapel Hill, Jenkins will stop by Florida State on Thursday, and after touring NC State, he will head to Texas Tech the following day.

The 6-foot-6, 281-pound redshirt sophomore, who is a former three-star prospect from New Jersey, has become a three-star player in the transfer portal and has two years of eligibility left. In his 13 games with the 2024 Volunteers, he recorded nine tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble, placing him at No. 120 overall and No. 15 among edge rushers in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings.

On the other hand, the UNC football program, led by Bill Belichick and his staff, has a transfer collection that is ranked No. 27 in the nation by 247Sports. This group includes two defensive linemen: former Delaware edge rusher Melkart Abou-Jaoude and ECU tackle CJ Mims, both rated as three-star transfers.
