So far, bowl season has exceeded expectations, showcasing exciting games and exceptional performances. The Birmingham Bowl on Friday night, featuring the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Vanderbilt Commodores, was no different. Under head coach Clark Lea and star quarterback Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt achieved a thrilling 35-27 victory over the Yellow Jackets, despite being 3-point underdogs.

Following the win, Vanderbilt’s social media team couldn’t help but take a playful shot at the ESPN “College GameDay” crew—Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit—who had all predicted a Georgia Tech win, except for Howard. This victory marked Vanderbilt’s first postseason win in 11 years, and they made sure to remind the “GameDay” crew of their incorrect forecasts by posting, “just gonna leave this here…”

“College GameDay” is the leading pregame show for college football, and its predictions are shared on a national level, gaining attention from programs across the country. For Vanderbilt, this moment was especially meaningful. It marked not only their first postseason win in 11 years but also their first seven-win season since 2013, when James Franklin was still at the helm. Head coach Clark Lea is fostering a new culture at the university, and achieving seven wins along with a bowl victory in the tough SEC is a significant accomplishment. With quarterback Diego Pavia set to return next season, the Commodores are establishing a strong foundation for future success. Friday night’s win was a crucial step forward.
