Still in search of their first pennant win in over 25 years, the San Diego Padres are adding a player who has experienced success in that arena.
Agent Joe Rosen shared on social media this week that his client, infielder Mike Brousseau, has signed a minor-league deal with the Padres.
Brousseau, a 30-year-old right-handed hitter, previously shone with the Tampa Bay Rays, posting a .302 batting average during the 2020 season and hitting a critical home run that helped the team defeat the New York Yankees in the playoffs, leading them to the World Series. However, his performance has declined since then, as he batted .238 over the 2022-23 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Last season, Brousseau was not part of Major League Baseball but had a solid year at Triple-A Syracuse, where he recorded a .276 average with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs in 93 games. The Padres have several infielders, including Ha-Seong Kim and Donovan Solano, entering free agency this winter, and may also trade some others. Although Brousseau may have a limited potential, he could provide some valuable at-bats for San Diego in 2025.
