“He’s the Ideal Match”: ECU Pirates Strengthen the Trenches as Major Commitment Secured

East Carolina University (ECU) strengthened its offensive line by securing another commitment on Sunday, with top offensive lineman target Cooper Trnavsky announcing his decision to join the Pirates. Trnavsky, who currently plays at Newberry College in South Carolina, had visited ECU earlier in the week before also touring Charlotte. He will be joining ECU for his final year of eligibility.

Trnavsky is one of three offensive linemen to commit to ECU on the same day, alongside Lievi Semaia from El Camino College. A third offensive lineman, whose commitment has not yet been publicly disclosed, has also signed on with the Pirates.

At 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Trnavsky has been a multi-year starter and earned all-conference honors at Newberry College, competing at the Division II level. He has played primarily on the right side of the line, including both guard and tackle positions. His film shows impressive footwork, strong base strength, and solid athleticism. Trnavsky had received offers from multiple programs, including Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, UMass, Ohio, Middle Tennessee State, Miami (OH), Eastern Michigan, UTEP, Colorado State, and several other FCS schools.

With ECU losing several key offensive linemen, including starting left tackle Parker Moorer, senior center Dustyn Hall, and versatile guard Hampton Ergle, Trnavsky and the other incoming linemen will likely have the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time, given their talent and experience.

Trnavsky, a Spartanburg, South Carolina native, attended Dorman High School before continuing his career at Newberry College.

ECU is entering its second season under its current offensive coaching staff, including offensive coordinator John David Baker and offensive line coach Matt Mattox. Last season, the Pirates averaged 32.5 points and 433.3 yards per game, finishing with a 7-5 record and 5-3 in The American Conference. After Blake Harrell took over as head coach late in the season, ECU finished strong, going 4-1 down the stretch and earning a bowl game appearance. The Pirates’ 2024 season is set to conclude on December 28 against NC State in the Military Bowl.
