Freshman receiver is the latest to join the Huskers via transfer portal

Nebraska football is making changes in its wide receiver lineup. Following the announcement of sophomore wide receiver Jaylen Lloyd entering the transfer portal, the team has welcomes former Kentucky four-star recruit Hardley Gilmore IV, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 178 pounds, Gilmore recorded six catches for 153 yards over five games during his time at Kentucky. His standout performance came against Murray State, where he had two receptions for 72 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown catch that opened the game.

Gilmore attended Pahokee High School in Florida, where he reclassified and skipped his senior year, making him one of the youngest freshmen in the nation.

Here’s what Andrew Ivins has to say about him:

“He’s a young wide receiver with a promising frame and quickness as a route runner. He reclassified and did not play his senior year of high school. While he didn’t face the toughest competition in Florida, he hails from a town known for producing NFL talent. He’s more of a player who builds speed with his long stride but can also stretch the field vertically. He exhibits strong hands and impressive body control when making catches. He may need a year or two for development due to his age, but he has the potential to become a multi-year contributor at the Power Five level if he continues to improve. There’s also potential for him to be considered on defense, given his previous experience as a safety.”

Gilmore is the third wide receiver the Huskers have added this recruiting cycle, joining his Kentucky teammate Dane Key and fellow freshman Nyziah Hunter, who transferred from Cal. All will be coached by Daikiel Shorts, their former position coach at Kentucky, in Lincoln.

This marks the Huskers’ 12th addition from the transfer portal so far.
