The NC State football secondary rebuild is now well underway.
On Saturday afternoon, Jaren Sensabaugh, a one-year cornerback from Missouri, announced that he would be seeking new opportunities by entering the transfer portal. Just about 24 hours later, on Sunday, the 6-foot, 179-pound athlete from Tennessee unexpectedly committed to NC State football head coach Dave Doeren and the Wolfpack.
While his decision was somewhat unexpected, it aligns with NC State’s pressing needs at his position.
Jaren Sensabaugh, the son of former UNC football defensive back and eight-year NFL safety Gerald Sensabaugh, will be joining NC State in Raleigh with four years of eligibility left. His strong performance in high school indicates that the Wolfpack coaching staff views him as a key player to help bolster the team’s secondary, especially following the announcement of four outbound transfers last week.
When Jaren enrolled at Missouri in June, he was a four-star recruit from Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tennessee, ranking No. 242 overall, No. 22 among cornerbacks, and No. 8 in the state according to 247Sports.
NC State had previously recruited Sensabaugh during his high school career, even hosting him for a visit and making it to his list of finalists.
Now, he becomes the sixth player to commit to the Wolfpack from this year’s transfer portal, with former Norfolk State linebacker AJ Richardson being the only other defender among the group.
