The American Athletic Conference has announced the recipients of this week’s men’s basketball awards for the ninth week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis
Haggerty contributed significantly to the Tigers’ 2-0 start in conference play, averaging 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in victories over Florida Atlantic and North Texas. On Thursday, January 2, in Boca Raton, Florida, the redshirt sophomore scored 19 points and secured five rebounds. He then excelled at home against the Mean Green on Sunday, January 5, scoring 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kam Williams, G/F, Tulane
Williams averaged 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as the Green Wave kicked off conference play with wins over Charlotte and UTSA. He posted 13 points and eight rebounds against Charlotte on Tuesday, December 31, followed by 11 points against the Roadrunners on Saturday.
HONORABLE MENTION
Tre Carroll, R-Jr., F, Florida Atlantic
Carroll averaged 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while the Owls finished last week with a 1-1 record.
Trae Broadnax, Gr., G, Rice
Broadnax played a key role in Rice’s 2-0 start in conference play, averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Jamal Mashburn Jr, Gr., G, Temple
Mashburn scored 24 points, along with four rebounds and four assists in the Owls’ conference-opening victory against Wichita State on Friday, January 3.
Kaleb Banks, Jr., F, Tulane
Banks averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as the Green Wave defeated both Charlotte and UTSA last week.
Justin Hill, Sr., G, Wichita State
Hill had an impressive performance, scoring 25 points with five rebounds and five assists in a game against Temple on Friday night.
