Former South Carolina quarterback Tanner Bailey is making the move to Auburn. A three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, Bailey spent two seasons at South Carolina as a backup to Spencer Rattler before entering the transfer portal and announcing his retirement last winter. Now, a year later, the Alabama native is coming out of retirement to join the Auburn football team.
“Everyone who knows me knows I’m a lifelong, passionate Auburn fan,” Bailey told the Montgomery Advisor. “If you ask the five-year-old Tanner what his lifelong dream is, this would be it. It’s amazing, and I can’t wait.” Bailey was part of a two-quarterback class at USC in 2022 that included Braden Davis. As reported by the Advisor, after his retirement, Bailey enrolled at Auburn to pursue a degree in criminal justice.
He graduated in December, and shortly after, Auburn coaches reached out to him. “I wanted to take some time off for personal development and growth,” Bailey explained. “Then, the coaches contacted me in early December to see if I was interested. We’ve been in discussions for the past few weeks, and I was really hopeful that it would come together, and it did. I’m very excited.”
