CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The Carolina Panthers are starting to make adjustments to their defensive coaching staff after allowing the most points in NFL history this season.

The team has dismissed secondary coach Bert Watts, outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, and quality control coach Bobby Maffei, according to a source familiar with the situation. The source spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday on condition of anonymity, as the Panthers have not yet officially announced these changes.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales stated on Monday that defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will return next season, expressing his approval of Evero’s defensive strategies. However, Canales did not clarify whether he would consider additional changes to the defensive staff.

It is possible that further staff modifications could occur.

Carolina allowed 534 points this season, the most ever in a 17-game schedule, averaging 31.4 points against per game—the sixth-highest in league history.
