“We certainly want it”: North Carolina land blockbuster commitment for top notch DB to bolster depth
Coleman Bryson, a defensive back from Minnesota, has committed to North Carolina after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Bryson spent the last three seasons at Minnesota as a redshirt sophomore, recording 54 tackles, four pass deflections, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. In the season opener this fall, a 19-17 loss to UNC, Bryson registered three tackles against the Tar Heels. According to On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players, Bryson was ranked as the 91st best defensive back and the 968th overall transfer.
Bryson becomes the 14th player to join North Carolina through the transfer portal in this cycle. He will join a group of new additions to the Tar Heels, including quarterback Ryan Browne (Purdue), wide receiver Aziah Johnson (Michigan State), tight end Connor Cox (South Carolina), offensive tackle William Boone (Prairie View A&M), linebacker Khmori House (Washington), defensive end Pryce Yates (UConn), cornerback Gavin Gibson (East Carolina), kicker Adam Samaha (Michigan), defensive linemen Melkart Abou Jaoude (Delaware) and C.J. Mims (East Carolina), and interior offensive linemen Christo Kelly (Holy Cross), Miles McVay (Alabama), and Chad Lindberg (Rice). These players will form part of the first roster under new coach Bill Belichick in 2025.
