The Kitchener Rangers have made a notable addition to their roster by signing Christian Humphreys, a forward from the University of Michigan and a Colorado Avalanche prospect. Instead of focusing on the trade market ahead of the OHL trade deadline, the Rangers have successfully recruited Humphreys to bolster their offense.
Despite holding multiple second and third-round picks for future years, the Rangers opted for a quieter approach during the trade deadline. Currently sitting third in the Western Conference and overall standings, with one of the league’s best defensive records, the Rangers had already made significant moves earlier in the season. They traded with the Kingston Frontenacs to bring in Slovak defenseman Jakub Chromiak, who has proven to be a solid addition to their blue line. Additionally, they secured Boston University commit Jack Pridham, a Chicago Blackhawks 2024 third-round pick, after the NCAA rule change. Pridham has been a standout player, scoring 11 goals and 23 points in 20 games.
This week, the Rangers turned their attention to a player already competing in the NCAA. Christian Humphreys, a Pittsburgh native and Colorado Avalanche 2024 seventh-round pick, has joined the team. Humphreys had one assist in ten games with the University of Michigan but brings valuable experience to Kitchener. Before his NCAA career, he played for the U.S. National Team Development Program for two years, winning a gold medal at the 2022 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge with five goals and eight points. He also earned a silver medal at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Junior Championship, scoring four goals in seven games.
Humphreys’ arrival adds another offensive weapon to the Rangers’ lineup as they push for success in the second half of the season.
