‘He’s Outstanding’: Former Seattle Mariners Manager Scott Servais Lands New Gig with San Diego Padres
Scott Servais has transitioned into a new role with the San Diego Padres after his dismissal as Seattle Mariners manager. He has been hired as a special assistant for baseball operations and player development, according to a report by Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Servais, who has a rich background as both a former player and a manager, brings a wealth of experience to the Padres’ front office, particularly in player development, having previously worked with the Texas Rangers in that capacity.
During his nearly 10-year tenure as manager of the Mariners, Servais guided the team to its first playoff appearance in over two decades in 2022. Despite this achievement, his time in Seattle ended in August after a midseason collapse that saw the Mariners lose a significant lead in the AL West and miss the playoffs. Servais’ firing led to former Mariners catcher Dan Wilson taking over as interim manager.
The Padres, coming off a second-place finish in the NL West and a playoff exit in the NLDS, are known for their star-studded roster, which includes players like Fernando Tatis Jr. and Dylan Cease. With the Padres also pursuing the coveted Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, Servais could play a role in helping shape the team’s future development and possibly set himself up for another managerial opportunity down the road.
