LeBron James, star of the Los Angeles Lakers, shares his thoughts on his son Bryce’s decision to commit to Arizona instead of his favorite Ohio State. LeBron, originally from Akron, Ohio, has long been a passionate supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes, frequently showing his enthusiasm for their sports programs, most recently their football team’s journey to the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Despite his strong ties to Ohio State, both of LeBron’s sons, Bronny and Bryce, declined offers from the university to play basketball elsewhere. Bronny opted for USC and played there for a year before entering the 2024 NBA Draft, while Bryce committed to Arizona earlier this month.
LeBron spoke about the decision during an appearance on the GoJo and Golic podcast, acknowledging that it can be difficult for people to understand why his sons didn’t choose Ohio State. He expressed appreciation for the strong recruitment efforts from the Buckeyes and their belief in Bryce’s potential both as a player and a person. “We’re excited for his next chapter once he gets down there,” LeBron said.
LeBron also joked about the situation, saying, “Hopefully I don’t have to buy the gear. I have a lot of friends who are U of A alumni, and hopefully, they can give me some of their stuff.”
While neither Bronny nor Bryce will be attending Ohio State like their father, LeBron takes comfort in the fact that both sons chose schools on the West Coast, keeping them closer to him. Additionally, LeBron still holds hope that his youngest child, daughter Zhuri James, may one day decide to attend Ohio State.
