Texas Longhorns EDGE Barryn Sorrell Declares for 2025 NFL Draft
Senior EDGE Barryn Sorrell announced on Tuesday that he will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, marking another significant loss for the Texas Longhorns defense. Sorrell, a key leader on the defensive line, follows veterans David Gbenda and Morice Blackwell Jr., who had already announced their departure.
Sorrell has been a mainstay for the Longhorns, starting in 39 of 48 career games since joining the program in 2021. He was one of the remaining players who helped build the foundation of head coach Steve Sarkisian’s program.
This season, Sorrell joined a select group of Longhorns who recorded at least 10 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, finishing his senior year with 44 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, and 12 quarterback hurries. He made an impact on both the field and in the locker room, playing in all 16 games in 2024.
Despite a slow start in his freshman year, Sorrell earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors in back-to-back seasons (2022 and 2023) and became a defensive cornerstone for Texas in his sophomore year, starting 10 of 13 games and starting every game the following season.
Reflecting on his time at Texas, Sorrell expressed his desire to leave a legacy by helping elevate the program to new heights. His leadership played a key role in Texas’ back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances, and he hopes his efforts have set a standard for future players.
“I came here and the culture was different,” Sorrell said. “There were a lot of ups and downs, but I focused on how I could improve and impact this team. I feel I’ve done that, and now it’s up to the guys behind me to take what I’ve taught them and push the program even further.”
Sorrell hopes to hear his name called when the NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 24.
