As the New York Jets approach the 2025 offseason, they have a long list of needs. While edge rusher might not be a top priority, considering the breakout performances from first-round picks Jermaine Johnson II and Will McDonald IV in the past two seasons, it remains an area of interest.
Recently, Jordan Plocher and Josh Liskiewitz from PFF highlighted the “perfect” NFL draft prospect for each team, suggesting an edge rusher for the Jets. They noted that while Will McDonald significantly improved his pass-rush stats in 2024, the presence of Haason Reddick—who wants to stay with the Jets—raises the question of whether another young, effective pass-rusher would be beneficial alongside McDonald.
Abdul Carter has been impressive, boasting a 92.2 PFF pass-rushing grade in the 2024 season, accumulating 12 sacks, nine hits, and 37 hurries, with a 22.9% pass-rush win rate. Capable of playing both inside and outside linebacker, Carter excels at rushing the passer from either position. He possesses good agility for outside rushes and has an effective spin move. His lateral quickness is also advantageous against outside zone runs, common among division rivals like the Bills, Dolphins, and Patriots.
