Breaking: Georgia Receives Major Mike Bobo Update Amid Rumors of a Step Down Circulating on Social Media
The Georgia Bulldogs are two weeks removed from their season-ending defeat to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Head coach Kirby Smart has already shifted his attention to next season, focusing on finalizing his roster and coaching staff. On Tuesday, rumors started circulating regarding offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
Former Bulldogs quarterback Buck Belue mentioned on “The Buck Belue Show” that, based on his sources, Bobo is expected to resign next week due to health concerns. “I’ve been talking to sources close to the program, and what I’m hearing is that Mike Bobo will be stepping down next week,” Belue stated. “He’s dealing with some health issues, including mentioned autoimmune disease, which has caused nerve damage in his arm and feet, making it difficult for him to walk.”
This news quickly sparked a frenzy among Georgia fans. However, a few hours later, Radi Nabulsi from UGASports.com took to X to clarify that Bobo “has no plans” to leave. “Contrary to the rumors spreading across social media, Mike Bobo has no intention of resigning as the offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia.”
Additionally, Rusty Mansell from DawgsHQ reported that Bobo was “on the road and recruiting” Texas commit Dia Bell on Thursday night. Bell posted on X to share that he had received an offer from Georgia and tagged Bobo in his announcement.
“Blessed and thankful to have received an offer from @GeorgiaFootball @KirbySmartUGA @CoachMikeBobo @CoachColey,” Bell wrote.
With Bobo staying in Athens, this is positive news for Smart, who would have had to find a new offensive coordinator before the 2025 season. However, Georgia fans are less enthusiastic about Bobo’s return, especially due to the offensive issues in 2024. The Bulldogs ranked 10th in the SEC for yards per game (405.4) and 5th in points per game (31.6), a significant decline from 2023 when they finished second in both categories.
“Well, this is disappointing. He should move on, or Georgia should let him go,” one fan commented. “Looks like we’re in for another mediocre season,” another remarked. “Well, here’s to another year without a national championship,” another fan added. “This is the most depressing news I’ve heard today,” one said. “I was hoping we’d have a shot at winning another Natty,” wrote another fan.
Even if Bobo thought about leaving Georgia, it wouldn’t be an easy choice for him. He played quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1993-97 and has had three different stints on the coaching staff, where he has held various positions including graduate assistant, quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive analyst.
