The No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes will face the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night in the national championship game of the College Football Playoff. This marks the inaugural title match in the new 12-team CFP format, and both head coaches, Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman, are aiming for their first championship. Anticipation for the game has been growing since Ohio State defeated No. 5 Texas on January 10, and now it’s nearly upon us. On Friday afternoon, Michigan and Notre Dame fans received a pointed remark from Strongsville, Ohio Superintendent Dr. Cameron M. Ryba.

In an email distributed to the district on Friday, Ryba mentioned that school might be canceled on Tuesday because of weather conditions. He also included a comment about Notre Dame and Michigan fans, according to Chase Brown. He stated, “The purpose of this email is to inform you that if we need to cancel school on Tuesday, our robocall system unfortunately does not recognize Michigan or Notre Dame fans. So, you’ll need to come in on Tuesday to check if anyone is at school!”

Ryba mentioned, “In all seriousness,” in the following paragraph, indicating he was likely joking about the robocall system. Nevertheless, it’s a pointed jab at Michigan and Notre Dame just days before a significant opportunity for the Buckeyes. He concluded the email with, “Have a great weekend and Go Bucks!” showing that Ohio State pride is running high. As an Ohio State alumnus, his repeated references to the university while teasing Michigan and Notre Dame fans make even more sense. After Ohio State’s regular-season finale loss to Michigan, many fans were left speculating about the future of the program and head coach Ryan Day. However, three consecutive wins in the College Football Playoff that led to the title game have certainly shifted that perspective. If Ohio State triumphs over Notre Dame on Monday night, there could be widespread celebrations throughout Ohio.
