Guardians Encouraged to Sign Veteran Left-Handed Pitcher

The Cleveland Guardians are not done making moves this offseason, recently completing a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays that sent Myles Straw to Canada. As the team continues to shape their roster, they may still look to free agency to add another veteran player before Opening Day.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter highlighted rotation depth as Cleveland’s most pressing need and suggested that the Guardians consider signing left-handed pitcher Ryan Yarbrough to address this gap.

“Yarbrough has been a reliable swingman throughout his career, making him a good option for a bulk relief role while also being ready to step in as a starter if needed,” wrote Reuter.

While Cleveland’s starting rotation depth doesn’t seem to be a major issue, with pitchers like Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, Luis Ortiz, and others capable of starting, the main concern is whether everyone can stay healthy and live up to expectations.

That said, adding a dependable veteran arm who can provide innings from the bullpen and step in for spot starts could still benefit the roster. Yarbrough, who posted a solid 3.19 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 44 appearances last season, could be that reliable option. At 33 years old, he has proven he can contribute in both starting and relief roles, making him a potential fit for the Guardians as they look to strengthen their pitching staff for 2025.
