Mark Few’s Comments After Gonzaga’s Loss to Santa Clara

Gonzaga suffered their second consecutive defeat, falling 103-99 to Santa Clara in a high-scoring battle at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (14-6, 5-2 WCC) allowed the Broncos (13-7, 5-2 WCC) to make 18 three-pointers, including 12 in the second half, which contributed to Gonzaga’s loss. This marked their first back-to-back conference losses in over ten years. Santa Clara’s Tyeree Bryan, who averaged just 9.7 points per game, had a career-high 35 points, shooting 7-of-12 from beyond the arc, leading the Broncos to their first win at the Kennel since 2007.

The Broncos became the third consecutive team to shoot 50% or better against Gonzaga and the first to score over 100 points at the venue since it opened in 2004.

“It’s disappointing that we had them playing really well early, but we just couldn’t close out a couple of games,” Gonzaga head coach Mark Few commented. “They were playing with anyone in the country. Santa Clara is a solid team with big wings, which continues to be a problem for us. They’ve got a nice big man in Tilly, and if their wings keep shooting like that, they’re a tough team to beat.”
