Breaking: Tennessee Lands Commitment From Running Back With Massive Resume

Tennessee made a significant addition to its 2025 transfer portal class on Sunday afternoon by securing former Duke running back Thomas, who announced his commitment on social media.

Thomas has been highly productive in recent college football seasons, rushing for over 500 yards in both 2022 and 2023 at New Mexico State, and surpassing 800 yards in 2024 while helping Duke to a 9-win season.

He will now join Tennessee’s backfield, where he’s expected to have a major impact in 2025. The Vols are looking to fill the gap left by leading rusher Dylan Sampson, who totaled 1,491 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024 before declaring for the NFL.

Tennessee adds Star Thomas

Tennessee will also have two young running backs, DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis, returning next season. Both players averaged over 5 yards per carry in 2024.

Head coach Josh Heupel and his staff have been selective with the transfer portal this offseason, with Thomas becoming just the third transfer commitment for the Vols so far.
