It’s time to put the Mike Bobo rumors to rest. On Friday, Georgia caused a stir in the college football world when rumors emerged suggesting that their offensive coordinator might be stepping down due to health issues. However, these rumors were quickly debunked by several Georgia insiders. Despite the swift denial, the speculation continued. So, let’s hear what DawgsHQ co-owner has to say about the situation.
In a new YouTube episode on January 19, Jake Reuse and Rusty Mansell, hosts of Georgia Bulldogs Football on DawgsHQ, addressed the viral rumors. Mansell firmly rejected the claims, stating that “that’s simply not the case.” He clarified, “[Mike] is out recruiting for Georgia. If anything changes, we’ll report it. But as for the report about him stepping down due to health issues, that is simply not true.”
Rusty Mansell addressed the rumor in his January 18 post on X, stating, “Let me say it this way, 1000% not true that Mike Bobo is stepping down for health issues or planning on retiring.” He reinforced this by providing additional context, explaining that Bobo “missed his son’s senior football banquet” because he was in Miami watching quarterback Dia Bell, a Texas QB commit, play basketball. Such an action hardly seems consistent with someone dealing with health issues. Mansell is not alone in clearing up the situation.
Rivals insider Radi Nabulsi also addressed the rumors, first debunking the claim that Georgia had approached Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner as a potential replacement for Bobo. Nabulsi reached out to Faulkner, who denied the rumor, and also confirmed that he had met with Bobo after the Sugar Bowl, during which Bobo mentioned no plans to retire. Nabulsi further clarified, “We spoke to someone very, very close to Mike Bobo and we were able to say unequivocally that Mike Bobo has no plans to step down, step aside, or quit.” Given these reports, it seems highly likely that Bobo is staying put. Kirby Smart is continuing his focus on recruiting, potentially benefiting from Bobo’s strong commitment to the process.
Meanwhile, Georgia is turning its attention back to 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis, the No. 2 QB in the 2026 class, who initially committed to Kirby Smart in March. Although Curtis decommitted in October to explore other options, he now considers Georgia among his top six schools, alongside Oregon, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, and Ohio State.
Currently, Jared Curtis seems to be leaning toward Georgia, according to 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions. However, his upcoming visits will likely play a significant role in his final decision. The 6’4, 225-pound quarterback is scheduled to visit three schools this June: Oregon from June 6-8, Georgia from June 13-15, and South Carolina from June 20-22. It remains to be seen if anything will shift his preference before the summer.
As for Mike Bobo, it appears he will remain at Georgia. For fans, the best course of action is to avoid getting caught up in further speculation.
