The New York Jets might consider moving on from 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Although Rodgers, the oldest quarterback in the league last season, still managed to deliver a productive performance, the Jets could look to part ways with him due to the complications surrounding his tenure with the team.
Charlie Wilson of Mirror US recently suggested that the Jets could replace Rodgers with another seasoned veteran, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford has one year left on his contract, but the Rams may consider moving on from him after a disappointing season.
“Stafford could make the most sense for the Jets for several reasons, though it would come with some questions,” Wilson wrote. “The Jets had the oldest quarterback in the league in Rodgers last season, and that move didn’t work out well for them. If Rodgers decides to move on, Stafford could be an appealing option.”
Despite the Jets’ underwhelming season, they still have a strong roster and could potentially be one quarterback change away from success. A trade for Stafford might involve giving up a day-two pick, and with Stafford’s $26 million salary, it would be a manageable cap hit for the Jets, especially if they need to continue paying off Rodgers’ contract.
Stafford, much like Rodgers, is a veteran with an expensive deal, and while he wouldn’t be the long-term answer for the Jets, he could provide a strong chance to win in 2025 without the added drama that Rodgers has brought.
