Commanders Seen as Mismatched Against Eagles by PFWA
As the PFWA season awards are unveiled, it’s clear that the Washington Commanders’ roster doesn’t quite compare to that of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Winning in the NFL is never easy, but the Washington Commanders have managed to do so 14 times, including during the 2024 postseason.
The Philadelphia Eagles have won 16 games, slightly ahead of the Commanders, but still not by much.
However, as the NFC Championship Game approaches, it was revealed on Monday that the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) have a much higher regard for the Eagles’ roster than Washington’s.
One Eagle, running back Saquon Barkley, earned a spot on the PFWA All-NFL Team, while no Commanders players made either the All-NFL or All-NFC Team.
In contrast, five Eagles—Barkley, guard Landon Dickerson, offensive tackle Lane Johnson, defensive tackle Jalen Carter, and middle linebacker Zach Baun—were named to the All-NFC Team.
Despite the disparity in roster recognition, Washington still managed to defeat Philadelphia in Week 16 with a last-minute nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jayden Daniels to wide receiver Jamison Crowder. They also held a lead going into the fourth quarter in Week 11 before Barkley powered the Eagles to victory with two key touchdown runs.
This weekend’s NFC Championship Game will serve as a deciding “rubber match” in this rivalry, with the winner securing not only bragging rights but also a trip to the Super Bowl, where they will face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills.
