Elite safety recruit Chace Calicut, a four-star prospect from North Shore, Texas, is drawing interest from several top programs, including the Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, and Texas A&M Aggies. The Longhorns are currently seen as the favorites, with Calicut planning a visit to Austin for Junior Day on January 25. Calicut, who is ranked as the No. 17 safety in the nation and the No. 20 recruit in Texas for the class of 2026, holds over 20 college offers.
Oregon extended an offer to Calicut on November 7, 2024. Oregon’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach, Chris Hampton, visited Calicut in Houston on January 9 to further his interest. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 190 pounds, Calicut has had an impressive high school career, helping North Shore reach the 6A Division I Texas Football State Semifinals with a 14-1 record.
Calicut has also visited Texas A&M twice, including during the Aggies’ games against Notre Dame and LSU. He visited Texas A&M again on January 18 for Junior Day and received an offer from Texas on January 17, with plans to visit Austin later in January.
“I love Texas,” Calicut shared with On3. “They are the early favorite, and I will visit for the first time on January 25. Coach Terry Joseph visited me last week and made me feel important, like he really wants me to play for Texas.”
Calicut also has high regard for Oregon, stating that the program has been a “dream school” for him. He looks forward to visiting both Oregon and Michigan, hoping to experience the environment at each school before making a decision. “It matters who the staff is, how they coach, and how I fit into the program,” he said.
Oregon’s 2026 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 1 in the country, although it does not yet have any cornerbacks committed. Oregon’s recruiting class includes top prospects like five-star tight end Kendre Harrison, along with several four-star players across different positions.
