The St. Louis Blues’ practice on Wednesday concluded on a disappointing note, as defenseman Philip Broberg suffered an injury and had to be assisted off the ice.

According to Lou Korac, Broberg took a tumble during a drill and left the ice while putting minimal weight on his right leg.

Near the end of the session, Broberg got caught up against the sideboards and limped off, with trainers helping him.

Head coach Jim Montgomery had little to say after practice, but mentioned that Broberg would be assessed on Thursday to determine how serious the injury is.

This marks Broberg’s second injury this season, as he previously missed 12 games due to a leg injury in November. Though the current injury also involves his leg, it could be more serious, with further details expected on Thursday.

The situation is less than ideal for the Blues, who can ill afford to lose Broberg. If he is sidelined, Justin Faulk may pair up with Ryan Suter, while Scott Perunovich could return to the lineup to play alongside Tyler Tucker.

Broberg’s first season with the Blues has been a success, playing a crucial role in keeping the team in playoff contention. Should he be unable to play, it will be up to others, like Perunovich, to step up during a critical phase of the season, and seasoned players like Faulk, Suter, and Colton Parayko will need to rise to the occasion. If Broberg’s injury turns out to be serious, someone will have to fill the gap left by his absence.
