Could the former Notre Dame hoss end up joining the Vols?

Could another offensive lineman be joining the Tennessee football team? It certainly seems that way, as there are rapid developments involving Notre Dame guard Sam Pendleton, who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Pendleton started seven games for the Fighting Irish in 2024 but lost his starting position midway through the season and did not participate in the College Football Playoff games against Georgia, Penn State, and Ohio State.

This could be good news for the Vols. Austin Price from Volquest reports that Pendleton is heading to Knoxville on Thursday for an official visit. Additionally, On3’s Pete Nakos noted that Pendleton entered the portal with a ‘no contact’ label. Interesting, indeed!

Notre Dame OL transfer Sam Pendleton will reportedly visit Tennessee on Thursday

Standing at 6-4 and weighing 310 pounds, Pendleton has the potential to make an impact for his next team, with many Vols fans hoping he’ll end up in Knoxville. He has three years of eligibility left at his next destination.

With several key offensive linemen, including Cooper Mays, not returning next season, it’s crucial for Josh Heupel and his staff to add experienced players up front. Fortunately, UT already made a move for the line earlier this winter, signing interior lineman Wendell Moe Jr.

Moe was a standout at Arizona, but he’ll be heading to Tennessee in 2025. Could Pendleton follow the same path? The fact that he’s listed as no contact in the portal and has quickly scheduled a visit to meet with Heupel and the coaches seems promising. Could this lead to a commitment or signing soon? It looks like things are heading in that direction. Stay tuned.
