Gophers Extend Scholarship to Explosive 2026 Texas RB Dionne Sims
Dionne Sims, a standout running back from Houston, Texas, has received a scholarship offer from the Gophers. A three-star junior, Sims is regarded as one of the most exciting athletes in the 2026 recruiting class.
Standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 160 pounds, Sims may be considered slightly undersized, but he stands out for his remarkable explosiveness. In addition to football, he competes in track at C.E. King High School, where he qualified for the Texas 6A regional meet in the 400-meter race with a personal best of 47.42 seconds. Sims also participates in the 100m, 200m, and long jump events.
In his junior season, Sims recorded 1,047 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 120 carries, competing at a high level in Texas high school football. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he is the No. 649 player in the 2026 class, No. 49 running back, and No. 86 overall player in Texas.
Sims holds scholarship offers from several schools, including Oregon, Illinois, Arizona, and Houston. The Gophers appear to be entering the race for his commitment early, as Sims has received just five offers from Power 4 schools so far. Minnesota has offered a total of 12 running backs in the 2026 class and appears to have identified Sims as one of their top targets.
